Best Places to Take Your Dog in Greenville, SC

June 3, 2020 | Living at Rolling Green Village

Why People Love Dogs:

Humans and dogs have lived side by side for approximately 10,000 years, and this unique interspecies relationship shows no sign of diminishing. In fact, living with a dog has been proven to provide substantial physical and mental benefits. Research states that interactions with dogs encourage us to be more physically active, and inspire us to be generous and nurturing. We’re more likely to be playful when we’re around a dog, and dogs can facilitate easier person-to-person social connections.

Dogs can bring out the best in us, which is why we remain so devoted to them, and why people look for pet-friendly senior living communities like Rolling Green Village that welcome their four-legged family members as well. Since we know how much our residents love their dogs, we’ve compiled a list of the best places to take your dog in Greenville, SC.

Best Places to Take Your Dog

For a Walk:

Falls Park on the Reedy

Just across the Reedy River, Falls Park is a beautiful 32-acre park that’s easily accessible from downtown Greenville, SC. You can take a stroll around the walking paths or tour the gardens. If you time it right, you may be able to bring your dog to a festival or concert in the park. Falls Park has even received national acclaim — TripAdvisor has named it a “Top U.S. Park.” This outing is sure to be great for you and Rover.

Lake Conestee Park

This sprawling nature reserve creates an unparalleled setting for a brisk walk. With 14 miles of trails over 400 acres, you and your dog can explore both forests and wetlands as well as see protected wildlife. Your dog is welcome to join you for all of it as long as they’re on a leash. But if they just have to run free, there is an off-leash dog park within the grounds, a true asset among dog-friendly parks.

Paris Mountain State Park

Unsurprisingly, the highlight of this natural oasis is Paris Mountain, a monadnock. A monadnock has been described as a “geological oddity” because it is a stand-alone mountain that emerges out of the surrounding flatlands. For this reason alone, this park is a unique and interesting option on the list of best places to take your dog. But Paris Mountain State park also offers four different lakes with scenic waterfronts, 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, and picnic shelters for outdoor dining.

To Eat & Drink:

Unleashed Dog Bar

Sip a delicious cocktail while your dog enjoys some off-leash playtime. Your dog will need either a day pass or an annual membership to join in, but you can feel great about letting him play because Unleashed requires all dogs over age one to be spayed or neutered, and all dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations. This ingenious arrangement makes Unleashed one of the best dog-friendly restaurants.

Brewery 85

This local brewery is very welcoming of well-behaved dogs. They even put on a regular Yappy Hour for dogs and their humans during which they raise funds for the Greenville Humane Society.

Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery

The outdoor patio at this cafe and grocery is a picturesque spot to sample locally sourced artisanal dishes (and maybe pass a few scraps to your lucky pooch under the table). This destination could be the most charming of the dog-friendly restaurants in Greenville.

While You’re on Vacation:

The Noble Dog Hotel

Book your friend a luxury stay in this local dog hotel. They’ll enjoy individual walks, added exercise with dog friends and rest time for meals. If you’d like, you can even order them room service cooked by a private chef or arrange spa services while they’re there.

Dog Culture

If your pup has already been established in the Culture Club daycare, they may qualify for overnight stays in this homey environment. Here, your friend can play all day in small groups with other dogs of their same size and temperament. You can feel great about the care provided by the team members — all trained in dog behavior and dog CPR.

Camp Bow Wow

A stay at Camp Bow Wow could be restorative for your dog. They follow an enrichment model that focuses on stimulating dogs’ natural instincts, providing physical and mental workouts, and designing a well-rounded experience.

To Find Dog Accoutrements:

The Barkery Bistro

You can bring in your dog for a grooming appointment or to shop around for gourmet treats, eco-friendly toys, food, soap and designer leashes.

Paws & Claws

Paws & Claws offers you the choice between having an expert groom your four-legged friend or washing them yourself. You can also peruse stylish accessories and health-conscious treats.

Paws Paws USA

At this adorable dog-friendly store, you can discover leashes and harnesses that will be perfect for your walks together. You can also make your dog’s day-to-day life delightful with the right treats and beds.
